FDT/DTM is a manufacturer-independent concept that enables the parameterization of field devices from different manufacturers with just one program. A DTM (Device Type Manager) is a device-specific driver that includes all functions (parameterization, diagnostics, maintenance) as well as the graphical user interface for a specific field device or device family. A DTM can be started from a so-called FDT frame application. Typically, TwinCAT is used as the frame application when using Beckhoff controllers, so that programming and commissioning of field devices take place in the same development environment. Communication with the field device takes place via the HART protocol. With TwinCAT 3 FDT ComDTM, the FDT/DTM technology with Beckhoff components can also be used in third-party systems. For this purpose, the ComDTM is opened in the FDT frame application of the third-party supplier (e.g. process control system, asset management software). There the target system, which can be a TwinCAT-based controller or a bus coupler, is selected and the connection to it is established. Subsequently, the field devices connected to it can be configured using their DTMs. TF6680 TwinCAT 3 FDT ComDTM is available free of charge.
